Shredding

Legislation such as PIPEDA, HIPA and the Privacy Act exist to protect sensitive, confidential and personal information of individuals and businesses. Appropriate destruction and disposal of this information is vital to the Trustees who have that responsibility. Cosmo Shred's secure document collection and shredding program are NAID certified for your peace of mind.

There are not many places in an information economy where limited, or no, literacy skills are a valuable trait. Our Participants have an industrious work ethic and a joy for engaging in their work that is second to none.  Shredding confidential material is a perfect match for the capabilities of adults with intellectual disabilities.

We sought out and achieved NAID certification to ensure rigorous standards for our operation. Producing quality work positively exhibits what persons with disabilities are capable of if given the opportunity.

We Follow Industry Best Practices

Protection of sensitive materials is ensured through strict security practices and an unbroken chain of custody . A certificate of destruction verifies that materials have been destroyed.

Cosmo Shred's security procedures and unbroken chain of custody from start to finish in our document collection and shredding process keeps you compliant with respect to legislation for your business.  Some aspects of our operation are:

  • Upon pick up of confidential material, our collection vehicles remain locked at all times. No material is left unattended at any time unless locked in our collection vehicles
  • Material brought back to Cosmo for shredding is either shredded immediately or is stored temporarily in a locked, secured and alarmed area.
  • Our building intrusion alarm system is serviced by Insurguard and monitored by Securtek. Cosmo has a second tier alarm system within the building where confidential material is stored until shredded.
  • Material is shredded into 3/8 inch wide strips and baled into a large compact bale/bundle, which is fastened with several steel wires. Baled material is shipped via bonded carriers to paper mills in Canada and the United States who re-pulp the material in order to include it as post secondary fibre into a new product.
  • A certificate of destruction is provided on destruction of the material.
  • All employees are subject to a Police Record check and those handling your documents are bonded.
